Ultrasound and X-ray for Pets

Diagnostics like ultrasounds and X-rays (radiographs) are essential tools that show images of your pet's internal organs. We use modern equipment to get quick results and have special training to interpret them. Ultrasounds diagnose pregnancies, cysts, and tumours and evaluate vital organs like the liver, kidney, heart, and gallbladder. We use radiographs to diagnose arthritis, spinal cord disease, fractures, gallstones, periodontal disease, foreign objects, and bone tumours. In certain situations, our veterinarians will recommend using both tools to rule out any issues the other doesn't detect.

What are ultrasounds?

Ultrasounds are performed by a sonographer. In most cases, one of our veterinary assistants will shave the area that will be examined. The sonographer will apply gel to that section and strategically wave a handheld wand over the area. The wand sends soundwaves that echo and bounce off your pet's internal structures, creating images shown on a computer screen.

What are X-rays?

During radiographs, light rays pass through your pet's body, and a snapshot is taken. In some instances, when the patient is anxious or squirming too much, they may be sedated. The sedation will wear off in a couple of minutes, but it is necessary for us to get clear images.

Are X-rays safe for my pet?
